Home Care-Assisting in Care for Older Veterans
There are just under 2 million World War II veterans left in the United States, and they are quickly aging.
Many individuals of the “Greatest Generation” who are dealing with the challenges of aging require care and support with daily chores. Home care can be an excellent option for assisting elderly veterans in receiving superior care and maintaining the quality of life they deserve.
Veterans can benefit from home care services in a variety of ways. Professional companion care, such as conversation and company, as well as household duties such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry; and non-medical personal care, such as assistance with individual needs such as bathing and hygiene, continence and toileting care, mobility support, and eating assistance. Home care can also help veterans of any age who have been injured in the field, as well as active-duty families who need assistance when their loved ones are deployed.
These home care services can be applied in various settings:
- Veterans can receive companion care or personal care in their own homes
- Care can be provided in independent and assisted living communities
- Respite care can be offered to family caregivers so they may take time off from caring for their loved ones.
Aid & Attendance
Veterans of World War II and their surviving spouses are eligible for VA pensions. The Veterans Assistance and Attendance Pension is a little-known existing benefit that helps lower the expense of care for older soldiers and surviving spouses.
Aid & Attendance is offered to qualifying veterans and spouses who require home care, such as assistance with eating, washing, and medicine reminders, even if the need is not the consequence of a service-related injury.
If you are caring for a veteran of the United States Armed Services, make sure that they are receiving the care and benefits that they are entitled to. Through the Aid & Attendance program, Thrive USA Home Care provides non-medical home care and companion and personal care services to anybody 18 years of age and older who may need assistance.
